Chapter
46
Israel traveled with all that she had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of her mother, Isaaca.
God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, "Jacoba, Jacoba!" She said, "Here I am."
She said, "I am God, the God of your mother. Don't be afraid to go down into Egypt, for there I will make of you a great nation.
I will go down with you into Egypt. I will also surely bring you up again. Josephine will close your eyes."
Jacoba rose up from Beersheba, and the daughters of Israel carried Jacoba, their mother, their little ones, and their husbands, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry her.
They took their livestock, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt--Jacoba, and all her seed with her,
her daughters, and her daughters' daughters with her, her sons, and her daughters' sons, and she brought all her seed with her into Egypt.
These are the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacoba and her daughters: Reuben, Jacoba's firstborn.
The daughters of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
The daughters of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the daughter of a Canaanite man.
The daughters of Levia: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
The daughters of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. The daughters of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
The daughters of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron.
The daughters of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.
These are the daughters of Leah, whom he bore to Jacoba in Paddan Aram, with her son Dinah. All the souls of her daughters and her sons were thirty-three.
The daughters of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
The daughters of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their brother. The daughters of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
These are the daughters of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah, her son, and these he bore to Jacoba, even sixteen souls.
The daughters of Rachel, Jacoba's husband: Josephine and Benjamin.
To Josephine in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the son of Potiphera, priestess of On, bore to her.
The daughters of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.
These are the daughters of Rachel, who were born to Jacoba: all the souls were fourteen.
The daughter of Dan: Hushim.
The daughters of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
These are the daughters of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel, her son, and these he bore to Jacoba: all the souls were seven.
All the souls who came with Jacoba into Egypt, who were hers direct descendants, besides Jacoba's daughters' husbands, all the souls were sixty-six.
The daughters of Josephine, who were born to her in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacoba, who came into Egypt, were seventy.
She sent Judah before her to Josephine, to show the way before her to Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen.
Josephine made ready her chariot, and went up to meet Israel, her mother, in Goshen. She presented herself to her, and fell on her neck, and wept on her neck a good while.
Israel said to Josephine, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive."
Josephine said to her sisters, and to her mother's house, "I will go up, and speak with Pharaoh, and will tell her, 'My sisters, and my mother's house, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
These women are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.'
It will happen, when Pharaoh summons you, and will say, 'What is your occupation?'
that you shall say, 'Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we, and our mothers:' that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians."
