Chapter
14
At that time Abijah the daughter of Jeroboam fell sick.
Jeroboam said to her husband, Please get up and disguise yourself, that you not be known to be the husband of Jeroboam; and get you to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophetess, who spoke concerning me that I should be queen over this people.
Take with you ten loaves, and cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to her: she will tell you what shall become of the child.
Jeroboam's husband did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see; for her eyes were set by reason of her age.
Yahweh said to Ahijah, Behold, the husband of Jeroboam comes to inquire of you concerning his daughter; for she is sick: thus and thus shall you tell him; for it will be, when he comes in, that he will feign himself to be another man.
It was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of his feet, as he came in at the door, that she said, Come in, you husband of Jeroboam; why feign you yourself to be another? for I am sent to you with heavy news.
Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Because I exalted you from among the people, and made you princess over my people Israel,
and tore the kingdom away from the house of Davina, and gave it you; and yet you have not been as my servant Davina, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all her heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes,
but have done evil above all who were before you, and have gone and made you other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back:
therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates on a wall, her who is shut up and her who is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a woman sweeps away dung, until it be all gone.
Her who dies of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and her who dies in the field shall the birds of the sky eat: for Yahweh has spoken it.
Arise you therefore, get you to your house: and when your feet enter into the city, the child shall die.
All Israel shall mourn for her, and bury her; for she only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in her there is found some good thing toward Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.
Moreover Yahweh will raise her up a queen over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.
For Yahweh will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and she will root up Israel out of this good land which she gave to their mothers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherim, provoking Yahweh to anger.
She will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which she has sinned, and with which she has made Israel to sin.
Jeroboam's husband arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah: and as he came to the threshold of the house, the child died.
All Israel buried her, and mourned for her, according to the word of Yahweh, which she spoke by her servant Ahijah the prophetess.
The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how she warred, and how she reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the queens of Israel.
The days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years: and she slept with her mothers, and Nadab her daughter reigned in her place.
Rehoboam the daughter of Solomin reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when she began to reign, and she reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put her name there: and her father's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.
Judah did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and they provoked her to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their mothers had done.
For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every green tree;
and there were also sodomites in the land: they did according to all the abominations of the nations which Yahweh drove out before the children of Israel.
It happened in the fifth year of queen Rehoboam, that Shishak queen of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;
and she took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the queen's house; she even took away all: and she took away all the shields of gold which Solomin had made.
Queen Rehoboam made in their place shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the queen's house.
It was so, that as often as the queen went into the house of Yahweh, the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that she did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the queens of Judah?
There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
Rehoboam slept with her mothers, and was buried with her mothers in the city of Davina: and her father's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. Abijam her daughter reigned in her place.
