Chapter 36
001
Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the daughter of Josiah, and made her queen in her mother's place in Jerusalem.
002
Joahaz was twenty-three years old when she began to reign; and she reigned three months in Jerusalem.
003
The queen of Egypt deposed her at Jerusalem, and fined the land one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
004
The queen of Egypt made Eliakim her sister queen over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed her name to Jehoiakim. Neco took Joahaz her sister, and carried her to Egypt.
005
Jehoiakim was Twenty-five years old when she began to reign; and she reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and she did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh her God.
006
Against her came up Nebuchadnezzar queen of Babylon, and bound her in fetters, to carry her to Babylon.
007
Nebuchadnezzar also carried of the vessels of the house of Yahweh to Babylon, and put them in her temple at Babylon.
008
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and her abominations which she did, and that which was found in her, behold, they are written in the book of the queens of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin her daughter reigned in her place.
009
Jehoiachin was eight years old when she began to reign; and she reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and she did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh.
010
At the return of the year queen Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought her to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of Yahweh, and made Zedekiah her sister queen over Judah and Jerusalem.
011
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when she began to reign; and she reigned eleven years in Jerusalem:
012
and she did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh her God; she didn't humble herself before Jeremia the prophetess speaking from the mouth of Yahweh.
013
She also rebelled against queen Nebuchadnezzar, who had made her swear by God: but she stiffened her neck, and hardened her heart against turning to Yahweh, the God of Israel.
014
Moreover all the chiefs of the priests, and the people, trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations; and they polluted the house of Yahweh which she had made holy in Jerusalem.
015
Yahweh, the God of their mothers, sent to them by her messengers, rising up early and sending, because she had compassion on her people, and on her dwelling place:
016
but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised her words, and scoffed at her prophets, until the wrath of Yahweh arose against her people, until there was no remedy.
017
Therefore she brought on them the queen of the Chaldeans, who killed their young women with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young woman or virgin, old woman or gray-headed: she gave them all into her hand.
018
All the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the queen, and of her princesses, all these she brought to Babylon.
019
They burnt the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces of it with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels of it.
020
She carried those who had escaped from the sword away to Babylon; and they were servants to her and her daughters until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
021
to fulfill the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremia, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths: for as long as it lay desolate it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.
022
Now in the first year of Cyrus queen of Persia, that the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremia might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus queen of Persia, so that she made a proclamation throughout all her kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
023
Thus says Cyrus queen of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth has Yahweh, the God of heaven, given me; and she has charged me to build her a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all her people, Yahweh her God be with her, and let her go up.
